Description
mihimaru GT is a Japanese pop duo formed in January 2003, known for a signature sound that blends hip-hop with J-Pop. The group consists of female vocalist hiroko, whose real name is Hiroko Akutsu, and male rapper miyake, born Mitsuyuki Miyake. Miyake is also responsible for composing and producing much of their material, while hiroko primarily writes the lyrics. The group's name is a combination of the first syllables of each member's name, "mi" and "hi," with "maru," a common suffix for Japanese ship names, and "GT," an abbreviation for Gran Turismo, added to give the impression of speed. The duo was signed to the Universal J label. After a period of indefinite hiatus following 2013, the group announced a reunion in April 2021.

The group achieved mainstream success in Japan with the release of their single Kibun Joujou in 2006, which became a major hit and led to two consecutive appearances on the prestigious Kōhaku Uta Gassen in 2006 and 2007. Their music often incorporates samples of classical music and traditional jazz, with songs like Kaerou Uta sampling Maurice Ravel's Bolero and Itsudemo Hibiku Kono Melody drawing from Glenn Miller's In the Mood. Their third album, mihimagic, released in September 2006, exemplifies their energetic and eclectic style, featuring a mix of rap and pop melodies.

mihimaru GT has contributed several songs to anime and television programming. The ending theme for the 2008 revival of the classic anime Yatterman is their single diverge. Released on January 30, 2008, diverge is a medium-tempo track that was described as a sentimental love song, adding depth to the anime's world. The single also included the B-side song Eegana. For the television series Wan Wan Serebu Soreyuke! Tetsunoshin, the group performed the first ending theme, Life Gauge. One of their most prominent anime collaborations came in 2011 with the song Masterpiece. Released on June 8, 2011, as the group's 25th single, Masterpiece was used as the first opening theme song for the TV Tokyo anime Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL. The single was released in multiple editions, including a limited version featuring special Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL artwork.

Beyond these credits, the duo's music has appeared in other media. The song Tsuyoku Tsuyoku was used as an opening theme for the anime Glass no Senkan, and Kakegae no Nai Uta served as the theme song for the 2007 Doraemon film, Nobita's New Great Adventure into the Underworld. Their work has also been featured in live-action dramas and films, such as the movie Shaolin Girl, for which they performed Giri Giri Hero. The group has also engaged in notable collaborations, including working with SHOGO from the band 175R on the track Over Drive and with Kosaka Daimao on Do-na no yo ~Saikin~. Through these varied contributions, mihimaru GT has established itself as a significant act in the Japanese music industry, known for a playful yet polished musical identity that bridges pop, rap, and orchestral elements.
