“Hikari no ou” season 2: broadcast date announced and first preview published

"Hikari no ou" has announced the release date for the second season, which will premiere on January 14, 2024. Alongside this announcement, the first promotional video for the upcoming season was released, offering a glimpse into the continuation of the saga.

"Hikari no ou" is based on the epic fantasy novel by Rieko Hinata and is set in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity has lost its "fire." The story follows the struggles and survival of the 11-year-old girl Tomiko and the 15-year-old boy Koushi as they face numerous challenges. The first video showcases the main characters Tomiko, Koushi, Myoraku, Roroku, Kirara, and—for the first time in animated form—Rurimari.

Junji Nishimura is once again directing the second season, while Mamoru Oshii is responsible for the composition and screenplay. The cast includes Misaki Kuno as Tomiko, Shoya Ishige as Koushi, Maaya Sakamoto as Myoraku, Yoshimasa Hosoya as Roroku, Saori Hayami as Kirara, and M・A・O as Rurimari.
