The monthly magazine Bushiroad recently announced that manga artist Ahiru Tanaka will be taking on a new project. Starting July 21, Tanaka will adapt the yuri sci-fi novel series Twin Star Cyclone Runaway by Issui Ogawa into a manga series. This adaptation will be available on the Comic Bushiroad Web Manga site.

Twin Star Cyclone Runaway unfolds a story set 6,000 years in the future, where humanity has spread across the cosmos. At the heart of the plot is a massive cityship orbiting a distant gas giant, home to a community of space fishermen. These fishermen catch Besshu, fish-like creatures of considerable value. Harvesting Besshu requires a male-female pair—the operator and the pilot, who steer the ships—a duo regarded as a married couple in the predominantly male society.

The main characters are Terra, who is searching for a partner to pilot a ship, and Diode, a mysterious runaway girl. Notably, both are capable of steering the ship despite the societal norm of male-female pairs.

Issui Ogawa first introduced the short story Twin Star Cyclone Runaway in Hayakawa Shobo’s anthology Flowers for Asterism in June 2019. This short story was nominated for the 51st Seiun Awards in 2020. Ogawa later expanded the narrative into a full-length novel series, with the first volume released in March 2020. The third volume of the novel was published on June 20, featuring a cover by Kei Mochizuki.
