The highly anticipated TV anime adaptation of "A Certain Dark Side's Item" (original title: "Toaru Anbu no Shōjo Kyōsei") will premiere in fall 2026. The production team announced this on Friday, simultaneously releasing a new teaser trailer that for the first time reveals the voices of the four main characters from this spin-off of the well-known "A Certain Magical Index" series.

The teaser offers a glimpse into the dark atmosphere of the Academy City's "Dark Side" and shows scenes from the lives of the girls of the elite unit "Item," who are responsible for dangerous missions in the shadows of the peaceful city. In addition to the voices of the main characters, the video also introduces a frightened-looking Chōbi Hanano with teary eyes at the end.

The voice cast includes:
- Shizuri Mugino: Ami Koshimizu
- Rikō Takitsubo: Aya Suzaki
- Frenda Seivelun: Maaya Uchida
- Saiai Kinuhata: Chinatsu Akasaki

The role of Chōbi Hanano will be announced at a later date and is scheduled to be officially revealed during a stage event at "AnimeJapan 2026" on March 28.

The series' musical score is handled by Maiko Iuchi, known for her work on previous "A Certain" adaptations. Her soundtrack is intended to underscore the gritty atmosphere of the underworld with a digital, precise sound and emphasize the stylish action sequences.

About the characters:
The story centers on the elite team "Item." Leader Shizuri Mugino, a Level 5 esper ("Meltdowner"), is the fourth strongest esper in Academy City. Rikō Takitsubo serves as the tactical core of the team with her "AIM Stalker" ability, tracking targets. Frenda Seivelun is the only fighter without special abilities (Level 0) and acts as the frontline combatant. Saiai Kinuhata, as "Offense Armour," controls nitrogen and takes on the role of protector. The newly added Chōbi Hanano (Level 0) joins the group through the mediation of a mysterious voice.

Staff and production:
Direction is by Tatsuyuki Nagai, who previously directed "A Certain Scientific Railgun." Character design is by Shigeki Kimoto, and production, as with previous series in the franchise, is by J.C.STAFF.

The anime series is based on the light novel series of the same name by author Kazuma Kamachi, which has been published since 2023. To mark the anime adaptation, a free brochure containing a sample chapter of the original novel will also be distributed at "AnimeJapan 2026."
