The light novel series "Nia Liston: The Merciless Maiden" (Kyōran Reijō Nia Risuton: Byōjaku Reijō ni Tenseishita Kami-goroshi no Bujin no Kareinaru Musō Roku) is receiving an anime television series adaptation. A first visual and an introductory video have already been released.
Voice actress and singer Honoka Inoue has been entrusted with the voice of the protagonist Nia Liston. Inoue, whose career began in 2016, is the daughter of the well-known voice actress Kikuko Inoue. Her previous roles include characters in series such as "The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity", "Edens Zero", and "WorldEnd".
The story follows a legendary warrior woman who once defeated a god. On her deathbed, she regrets never having found a worthy opponent. However, she awakens in the body of the young and sickly noblewoman Nia Liston. Determined to finally experience the battles she hoped for in her second life, she begins training her weak body and sets out to search for strong opponents.
The series is directed by Motoki Nakanishi, supported by Haruta Segi as assistant director. Gigaemon Ichikawa is responsible for the series composition and scripts. The music is composed by Naoki Endō.
The animation production is tasked to KONAMI animation. This is a relatively new animation studio, founded by the Konami Group in February 2024, focusing on the production of anime content. The studio combines technologies from game development with classical animation production.
The work originally comes from author Umikaze Minamino and was first published as a web novel on the platform Shōsetsuka ni Narō. Since September 2022, the series has been published as a light novel with illustrations by Katana Canata by the publisher Hobby Japan. In parallel, a manga adaptation by Kabuto Kodai is running. The English version of the light novel is licensed by J-Novel Club. By April 2024, the published book series had reached a total circulation of over 400,000 copies.
