The production of a television anime series for the light novel series "Hikuidori: Ushū Borotobigumi" has been officially confirmed. The plot is based on the work of Naoki Prize-winning author Shōgo Imamura and centers on a group of firefighters in the Edo period. The story references historical major fires.

Five main cast members for the voicing of the central characters were announced. Yūichirō Umehara voices the role of the leader Gengo Matsunaga. Shūichirō Umeda takes on the parts of Shinnosuke Torigoe. Subaru Kimura lends his voice to his character Tōrajirō. The character Hikoya is voiced by Nobunaga Shimazaki, and Kenshō Ono is heard as Seijūrō Kaji.

A new motif, showing the group in front of flames, was released.

In addition, the first eight volumes of the underlying novel series will appear with newly designed covers that use images from the animation. This new edition is planned for early September.
