Anime adaptation of "Kurasu de Nibanme ni Kawaii Onnanoko to Tomodachi ni Natta" receives start date and new details

The animated television series based on the story "Kurasu de Nibanme ni Kawaii Onnanoko to Tomodachi ni Natta" (English title: I Became Friends with the Second Cutest Girl in the Class) will begin its broadcast in April 2026. As part of this announcement, a new key visual, a longer preview video, and the artist group responsible for the theme song were also presented.

The series tells a romantic comedy about the relationship between the reclusive protagonist Masaki and the second most attractive classmate in his view, Umi. The released key visual shows a scene in a school corridor where Masaki is walking alone, while Umi is seen in a group of friends.

The newly released preview video contains newly produced scenes. In addition to insights into Umi's personality, her friends Yuu, who is considered the most beautiful student in the class, and Nina are also shown, who together provide lively and humorous moments.

The musical accompaniment for the opening sequence is provided by the group reGretGirl with the song "Submarine Youth". Singer and guitarist Masahiro Hirabe commented on the inspiration behind the piece, referring to the sensitive portrayal of the awkward but sincere feelings of the two main characters in the source material, which he tried to capture in the composition.
