A long-awaited film adaptation of the manga source material "Reincarnation no Kaben" (English: Petals of Reincarnation) is shortly before its debut. The series combines supernatural action with an unusual concept about reincarnation and historical personalities.
At the center of the story is the high school student Tōya Senji. Although academically successful, he suffers from an inferiority complex because he lacks a special natural talent. His world changes when he encounters the secret organization "Forest of the Greats".
This group consists of so-called "Returners" – people who have regained the abilities and talents of their historical past lives. Together they fight the "Sinners", a rival organization that aims for the reincarnation of notorious and evil historical figures. Tōya joins the fight and must grapple with questions of identity and morality while exploring his own newly discovered powers.
The characters of the series are the reincarnations of significant persons from history and culture. The main characters and some of their historical counterparts include:
- Tōya Senji: The protagonist, a student with the potential to utilize abilities from past lives.
- Haito Luo Buffett: Tōya's classmate and a powerful Returner.
John V. Neumann, Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, Florence Nightingale, Miyamoto Musashi: Some of the historical geniuses and heroes whose abilities play a role in the story.
The animation production is handled by the studio Benten Film under the direction of Shun Kudō. The musical accompaniment comes from Kohta Yamamoto.
The series gathers an experienced voice cast. The main role of Tōya Senji is voiced by Shōya Chiba. Wakana Maruoka lends her voice to Haito Luo Buffett, and Ayane Sakura takes on the role of John V. Neumann. Other well-known voice actors such as Kaito Ishikawa (Isaac Newton), Haruka Shiraishi (Albert Einstein), and Reina Ueda (Florence Nightingale) complete the cast.
The television series is scheduled for a start in April 2026. The opening theme "Glitch" is performed by the artist eill, while the ending theme "ZERO" is by Sizuk.
Internationally, the series will be available exclusively on the streaming service HIDIVE after its release in Japan.
"Reincarnation no Kaben" fits into the genre of supernatural action manga and offers, with its premise – the battle between the reincarnated famous and infamous personalities – a standalone story. The release of the first trailers and key visuals has already generated anticipation among fans of the manga source material for the adaptation.
