Anime adaptation of the horror-comedy manga "Reiwa no Dara-san" announced for 2026

The popular horror-comedy manga "Reiwa no Dara-san" (English: Dara-san of Reiwa) is receiving a television anime adaptation. The series is set to be released in 2026.

The story, which originally started as a webcomic, is about the siblings Hinata and Kaoru Misogiya, who live in a rural area. During a storm, they enter a sealed-off, eerie forest area and encounter a female, snake-like apparition named Yamatagimadara. Contrary to all expectations, the children are not afraid of the mysterious being, but affectionately call it "Dara-san" and befriend it. The series is described as a mix of supernatural horror elements and unexpected comedy.

An experienced team has been assembled for the production. The direction is handled by Tadato Suzuki, known for "Gushing Over Magical Girls". The character design is developed by Koichi Kikuta, whose work on the "KONOSUBA" series has been recognized. The animation is handled by Asahi Production, which was also responsible for "Gushing Over Magical Girls". The musical score is handled by Rei Ishizuka, while the music production is managed by Lantis.

A teaser visual and a first teaser trailer were released for the announcement. The visual shows the siblings in front of a shrine under red moonlight, with a snake-like silhouette visible. The short trailer uses real film footage to create a dark and eerie atmosphere.
