Anime adaptation of Two People Smoking Behind the Supermarket announced

The manga series Two People Smoking Behind the Supermarket (original title: Sūpā no Ura de Yani Sū Futari) is receiving an anime television series. Production is expected to begin in July 2026.

The animation production is being handled by the studio Ashi Productions. The company has a long history in the anime industry and was founded in 1975. The series is based on the manga of the same name by Jinushi, which is published by Square Enix in the magazine Monthly Big Gangan.

The plot follows the employee Sasaki and the supermarket employee Tayama. The two adults meet at a smoking area behind a supermarket and develop a connection through their encounters. The story is classified in the genre of everyday drama for an adult audience.

The voice roles for the two protagonists have been cast. The character Sasaki is voiced by Takuya Satō. The role of Tayama is played by Serina Hoshino (in some sources also listed as Kanade Hoshiki or Seena Hoshiki).

A first teaser and a key visual have already been released for the anime. The visual shows the two main characters with cigarettes, sitting back-to-back on a bench.
