The TV series Wandance, based on the manga of the same name by Kōhī, will air starting October 2024. The production has now unveiled a first teaser visual and announced the cast of the main roles: Kouki Uchiyama voices the shy protagonist Kaboku Kotani, while Hina Yomiyami portrays the talented dancer Hikari Wanda.
Kaboku, an introverted high school student with speech difficulties, discovers his passion for freestyle dance through Hikari, which allows him to communicate without words. Hikari, on the other hand, impresses with her natural talent despite having no formal training. Uchiyama expressed his excitement about how the animation studios will visually interpret the "raw energy" of dance. Yomiyami described the story as "captivating" and emphasized how deeply she identifies with the emotional depth of the characters.
The series is produced by Madhouse and Cyclone Graphics, with support from choreographer RIEHATA, who has previously worked with globally renowned acts like BTS. His expertise is expected to elevate the dance scenes into a visual highlight. The manga, which has been serialized in Monthly Afternoon (Kodansha) since 2022, combines youthful self-discovery with the universal language of movement.
A special focus lies on the portrayal of Kaboku's development—from an uncertain beginner to a dancer who finds his inner voice through movement.
