The popular novel Anne auf Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery, translated by Hanako Muraoka, is being adapted as an anime series titled Anne Shirley. The premiere is planned for April 2025.
The original novel is set in the picturesque village of Avonlea on Canada's Prince Edward Island and tells the story of Anne, an orphan who is taken in by siblings Marilla and Matthew. Despite her difficult childhood, Anne's boundless imagination and warm-hearted nature transform the lives of those around her. Since the release of the Japanese translation in 1952, the work has enjoyed great popularity in Japan for over 70 years.
The anime adaptation will focus on Anne's growth from a young girl to an adult woman, based on three central themes: her growing bond with Marilla and Matthew as a new family, her deep friendship with Diana, and her budding romance with Gilbert.
The animation is produced by Answer Studio to bring this timeless story to a new generation.
