Anime film “Versailles no Bara” will hit theaters in early 2025

The film adaptation of the anime "Versailles no Bara" by Riyoko Ikeda will hit Japanese theaters in early 2025. The key visual elements as well as the second teaser trailer have been revealed, and the main cast has been announced.

The new key visuals show Oscar and Marie Antoinette gazing in the same direction, with André and Fersen in the background. The slogan reads: "Noble and endlessly in love." The teaser video features the voices of the main cast.

"Versailles no Bara" is set during the French Revolution and tells the story of Oscar François de Jarjayes, a noblewoman raised as a man, and her relationship with the innocent Queen Marie Antoinette of Austria. The narrative explores themes of love and life against the backdrop of political upheaval. Originally serialized in Weekly Margaret (Shueisha) from 1972 to 1973, the story has been adapted multiple times, including a stage production by the Takarazuka Revue, a TV anime, and previous film adaptations.
