After the anime film "Chō Kaguya-hime!" (internationally "Cosmic Princess Kaguya!") celebrated its global streaming premiere on Netflix at the end of January, it will now also be coming to Japanese theaters. The limited theatrical release is planned for one week starting February 20, 2026.

The work is a reinterpretation of the Japanese folktale "The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter" ("Taketori Monogatari"), enriched with modern elements such as virtual worlds and streamer culture. The plot follows high school student Iroha Sakayori, who one day finds a mysterious baby that grows within a few days into a girl named Kaguya. Together, they participate in a streamer competition in the virtual world "Tsukuyomi".

The film is directed by Shingo Yamashita, known for his dynamic opening sequences for anime series such as "Jujutsu Kaisen" and "Chainsaw Man". This marks his feature film debut. The animation was produced by Studio Colorido in collaboration with Yamashita's own studio, Chromato. The creativity is supported by an outstanding voice cast, including Yūko Natsuyoshi as Kaguya, Anna Nagase as Iroha, and Saori Hayami as the virtual administrator Yachiyo.

Special attention is given to the music. The soundtrack combines original compositions from several renowned producers from the Vocaloid scene, such as ryo (supercell) and kz (livetune).
