As part of Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles, Crunchyroll has unveiled the first character visuals for the anime adaptation of Ghost of Tsushima: Legends. The series is based on the online co-op mode of the same name from the successful PlayStation game Ghost of Tsushima and is set to premiere on Crunchyroll in 2027.
The creative team is confirmed: Takashi Okazaki, known for Afro Samurai, Batman Ninja, and Star Wars: Visions, is in charge of character design. The screenplay and series composition are handled by Gen Urobuchi (Nitroplus), famous for dark works such as Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Fate/Zero, and Psycho-Pass. Working alongside him on the script is Ken Maejima (Nitroplus), with whom Urobuchi previously collaborated on REVENGER and OBSOLETE. Direction is led by Takanobu Mizuno, who previously directed the short story The Duel in Star Wars: Visions. The animation is produced by Studio Kamikaze Douga, known for its distinctive style.
The released visuals showcase three of the playable classes from the "Legends" mode: the Assassin, the Archer, and the Ronin. Okazaki's powerful, ink-heavy drawings highlight the supernatural nature of the series.
Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is set in the 13th century during the Mongol invasion of Tsushima Island. Unlike the historically grounded campaign of the main game, the co-op mode transports players into a mythological world where they fight as resurrected "ghosts" (冥人) against demons and supernatural beings. The story is revealed from the perspective of a mysterious narrator.
The series is produced by HAYATE, a joint venture between Aniplex and Crunchyroll, in collaboration with Sony Music Entertainment and PlayStation Productions. The music is contributed by Sony Music Entertainment. Further details about the cast or a first trailer are still pending. Fans can look forward to a dark, action-packed interpretation of the material that combines the strengths of the involved creators.
