An anime adaptation of the manga "Nihon Sangoku" (Japan – Three Kingdoms) by Ikka Matsuki has officially been greenlit. A teaser visual and an animated trailer offer the first glimpses.
The plot is set in a near future where Japan has collapsed following a series of devastating events such as nuclear war, natural disasters, and state failure. The former national territory has split into three separate nations, ushering in a new era of warfare. At the center of the story is Aoteru Misumi, a young man whose goal is the reunification of the country.
The voice cast is led by Kensho Ono in the role of the protagonist Aoteru Misumi. Other main roles are taken by Asami Seto as Kogin Higashimachi and Takashi Nagasako as Heidongi. The narration is provided by Megumi Han.
The animated series is being directed by Kazuaki Terazawa at Studio Kafka. Character design and overall artistic supervision of the animation is handled by Takahiko Abiru.
The original manga is published on Shogakukan's platform "Manga One" and on "Ura Sunday". Its total circulation has exceeded 700,000 copies.
