The TV anime "Matsurika Kanriden" (Japanese: 茉莉花官吏伝) has received a concrete start date: The adaptation of the light novel series of the same name will begin airing on Japanese television in January 2027. Simultaneously, a new teaser visual, the main cast, and further members of the production team were presented to the public.

The story is set in a world inspired by historical China and follows the young court lady Matsurika Ko, who rises to become an official in the imperial palace due to her exceptionally good memory. Her fate takes a decisive turn when she meets the Emperor of Hakuro, the equally intelligent and charismatic ruler Hakuyo, who takes a liking to her abilities. The backdrop of native nobility and court intrigue forms the setting for a slowly developing romance.

The title character Matsurika Ko is voiced by Rie Takahashi, Emperor Hakuyo by Nobunaga Shimazaki. Both voice actors have already portrayed their roles in previous audio dramas and promotional videos for the book series and are now returning for the anime series. In a statement, Takahashi expressed her immense happiness about the long-standing connection to the character, while Shimazaki emphasized how much Matsurika's persistent nature impresses him.

The overall direction of the project is handled by the experienced director Takeshi Mori ("Vandread"). Yuichi Nakazawa is responsible for the daily direction. The character design is created by Manami Inose, and the musical accompaniment is provided by Takuro Iga. The animation production is handled by Studio MAHO FILM, which recently gained attention with works such as "I'm the Villainess, So I'm Taming the Final Boss."

Parallel to the announcement of the start date, a collaboration with two other works from the B's-LOG publishing house was announced. A joint visual shows the heroines of the series "Matsurika Kanriden," "Akuyaku Reijō wa Ringoku no Ōtaishi ni Dekiai Sareru," and "Yowaki MAX Reijō nano ni, Ratsuwan Konyakusha-sama no Kake ni Notte Shimatta" with bouquets of flowers. As the first concrete joint action, bookmarks with the motif will be distributed at the AnimeJapan 2026 anime convention at the end of March.

The underlying light novel series by Rinne Ishida with illustrations by Izumi has been published since 2017 and now comprises 18 volumes. A manga adaptation by Waka Takase has been serialized in the magazine "Princess" since 2018 and has also found a loyal readership.
