Anne Shirley - Episode 14

While Anne Shirley and Diana Barry get lost in the woods on their way to an invitation, they accidentally discover "Echo Lodge", the residence of the reclusive Lavendar Lewis. Anne learns there about the failed engagement between Lavendar and Stephen Irving twenty-five years ago, which ended after a trivial argument and resulted in Stephen's emigration to the USA. In the following episode, Anne brings her student Paul Irving, Stephen Irving's son, to visit Echo Lodge, where he and Lavendar immediately form a connection. After one of these meetings, however, Lavendar shows clear signs of melancholy, which her housekeeper Charlotta the Fourth observes. At the same time, Stephen Irving unexpectedly returns from America. Anne informs him about Lavendar's situation and arranges a meeting between the two, which Lavendar agrees to as a reunion of old friends. Finally, Anne and Charlotta observe Stephen and Lavendar engrossed in a long and apparently reconciliatory conversation in the garden of Echo Lodge, leading Charlotta to the excited assumption that Stephen has proposed to Lavendar.
