Anne is studying diligently for a scholarship to finance her education. Her friendship with Gilbert Blythe remains unwaveringly strong. After an unwanted and unpleasant marriage proposal from Charlie Sloane, Anne receives a letter from her friend Stella suggesting the idea of renting their own house in Kingsport with Priscilla and a housekeeper. The search for suitable accommodation proves difficult until Anne accidentally discovers "Patty's Place". Through her genuine enthusiasm for the house, she convinces the owner to rent it to them at a price affordable for students. Later, Anne decides to visit her birthplace Bolingbroke during the summer holidays. Accompanied by Philippa, she finds the house of her imagination and receives letters from her deceased parents from the current occupant, giving her a deep sense of connection to her origins.
