In the final year of her studies, Anne receives the news that one of her short stories will be published in a magazine. Shortly thereafter, Roy Gardner announces a visit from his mother and sisters, who, however, surprise Anne a day early. The visit goes awkwardly, mainly due to the cats' improper antics. Anne graduates with honors in English. At the graduation ball, she does not dance with Gilbert, and the rumor about his engagement to Christine Stuart is not confirmed. When the time at Patty's Place ends, Roy asks Anne to marry him during an evening walk. Anne surprisingly refuses his marriage proposal.
