Announcement for the Second Season: "GATE Season 2: Jieitai Kano Umi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri"

A first promotional video has been released for the upcoming continuation of the anime television series. The new episodes are expected to premiere in 2027.

The video material provides initial insights into the plot, which this time focuses on the Maritime Self-Defense Force. Footage includes the submarine "Kitashio" navigating through an expansive, blue seascape, as well as several sequences conveying a tense atmosphere.

The production of the new season is handled by Studio M2, known for works such as "PLUTO." Takahiro Takahashi takes the director's chair, while Tatsuhiko Urahata, who was already involved in the first series, is responsible for series composition and screenplay. The character design is by Shigeru Fujita.

Accompanying the announcement, an initiative was launched on the official website, allowing fans a behind-the-scenes look at the production. As part of this campaign, exclusive materials such as background illustrations and storyboards are provided.

The story of "GATE SEASON2" is based on the novel by Takumi Yanai and takes place several years after a gate to another world opened in Tokyo's Ginza district. The new story arc follows Maritime Self-Defense Force member Hajime Tokushima and the princess Primera from the other world, who face new challenges.

Parallel to the anime announcement, the release of a manga adaptation began on the Alphapolis platform, drawn by Satoru Sao. Sao was already responsible for the adaptation of the first series.

Furthermore, it was announced that the project will be represented at the AnimeJapan 2026 event. From March 28th to 29th, a booth will be set up there, featuring exhibitions.
