Back at the camp, Couran outlines the plan to capture the crucial city of Verzud before winter arrives. The strategy involves splitting their forces and attacking Staatz and Rolto castles simultaneously. Ars and Lumeire are tasked with taking Rolto Castle. Negotiations with neighboring fortresses fail—except for Fort Vardosen, whose commander, Lupa Luzton, agrees to talks if a high-ranking envoy is sent.

Ars takes charge of the negotiations at Fort Vardosen, but the atmosphere is tense and hostile. Using his Appraisal skill, he uncovers new information: Lupa's wife is being held hostage at Rolto Castle to ensure his loyalty. Realizing Lupa is torn between duty and family, Ars offers to rescue his wife in exchange for Lupa swearing allegiance to him.

Moved by this offer, Lupa agrees, and Ars prepares to infiltrate Rolto Castle to save her. The episode ends with Ars readying himself for this dangerous mission, laying the groundwork for the upcoming challenges in the campaign against Vasmarque's faction.
