On May 25, 2026, the June issue of the magazine Monthly Big Gangan (Square Enix) marked the start of the manga adaptation of the popular "DanMachi" spin-off "Astraea Record." The series, with the full title "Astraea Record: Dungeon ni Deai o Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darō ka – Eiyūtan," is being handled by illustrator Karu Yoneshiro and is based on the light novel series of the same name by Fujino Omori.
The story takes place seven years before the events of the main series and sheds light on the past of the elf Ryu Lion, who is known in the main story as a feared fighter. At the center is the Astraea Familia, a group of adventurers who serve the goddess of justice and fight for the survival of the city of Orario in an era marked by chaos and violence. Together with her companions, including the charismatic familia leader Alize Rhowell, Ryu confronts the dark machinations of the "Ivis" cult. The story begins with a double chapter release, which also features a colored opening page and the magazine's cover.
The light novel series "Astraea Record" originally originated as a scenario for the third anniversary of the mobile game "DanMachi: Memoria Freese" in 2020. Author Fujino Omori subsequently adapted the story into a three-part novel series, which began publication in October 2022 under GA Bunko (SB Creative). The English translation is handled by Yen Press. The entire "DanMachi" franchise, which also includes the spin-off "Sword Oratoria," has now reached a circulation of over 20 million copies. The fifth season of the anime aired in October 2024, and a sixth season has already been announced.
With the manga adaptation, the celebrated spin-off is now being made accessible to an even broader audience. Fans can look forward to a dark, emotional narrative that illuminates the backstory of one of the most popular characters in the "DanMachi" universe.
