In Episode 5 of Ayaka titled "Then Give Me Drinking Money," the story begins with a training session where the characters learn to control ley energy.

The training is interrupted by an earthquake, a common occurrence on the island. The islanders are not overly concerned about the earthquakes, as they have prepared emergency kits for such events. However, they notice that volcanic activity on the island has increased due to the growing power of the Fire Dragon, a major ley energy current infused with fire energy. The Fire Dragon's rival, the Water Dragon, has disappeared, causing an imbalance between fire and water.

The episode takes a turn when the characters visit the grave of Yanagi Makoto, the master who suppressed the power of the Fire Dragon a decade ago, preventing a massive eruption and saving the island of Ayaka. The islanders regard Yanagi as a hero and pay their respects to him. During their visit, they find a lost keychain belonging to Ichijou Ibara, a member of Ayaka Security.

The characters decide to return the keys to Ichijou, which leads to a revelation about her past. Ichijou's parents died in a fire caused by an Ara-Mitama, a form of Mitama corrupted by negative emotions. The incident happened several years ago and remains a tragic memory for the islanders.

Later in the episode, another earthquake occurs, followed by the appearance of a Fire Ara-Mitama. Ichijou rushes toward it, acting recklessly due to her past trauma. The episode ends on a cliffhanger, with Ichijou facing the Ara-Mitama and the other characters rushing to her aid.
