Anime Film Based on Takashi Imashiro's Work Hits Theaters in July

The upcoming anime film "Bakeneko Anzu-chan," based on the original work by Takashi Imashiro, has revealed additional cast members, a trailer, a poster, and details about its theme song. The film, which opens in Japanese theaters on July 19, is directed by Atsuhiro Yamashita and Haruko Kuno. It uses rotoscoping techniques to animate live-action footage and tells a quirky and mysterious summer story featuring a 37-year-old Bakeneko (supernatural cat) named Anzu and a young girl named Karin as the main characters.

The newly announced cast includes Takahiro Aoki as the voice and motion actor for Karin’s father Tetsuya, Miwako Ichikawa as Karin’s mother Yuki, and Keiichi Suzuki of the Moonriders as the voice and motion actor for Oshou-san, Anzu’s protector. Other cast members include Shingo Mizusawa as the God of Poverty, who engages in a fateful duel with Anzu, and Wataru Sawabe (from Skirt) as a raccoon dog yokai, alongside Mutsuo Yoshioka and Shohei Uno.

The trailer showcases scenes of Anzu and Karin meeting and their subsequent escape. The poster, designed by director Kuno and illustrated by Julien De Man, depicts the underworld and quiet moments in a temple with Anzu and Karin.

The theme song "Matatabi," written by Chiaki Sato and composed by Suzuki, has also been announced. The trailer offers a preview of this theme song. Alongside the announcements, comments from Aoki, Ichikawa, and Sato have been released.
