The Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Cosmos films will feature new cast members, as announced on the official website. Marina Inoue, Saori Hayami, and Ayane Sakura will take on the roles of Kou Seiya (Sailor Star Fighter), Kou Taiki (Sailor Star Maker), and Kou Yaten (Sailor Star Healer). The first film is set to hit Japanese theaters on June 9, followed by the second film on June 30.
The film project is directed by Tomoya Takahashi at Toei Animation and Studio Deen. The screenplay is written by Kazuyuki Fudeyasu, who previously worked on "Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Eternal." The character designs are by Kazuko Tadano, who also contributed to the "Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon" series. The music composition is by Yasuharu Takanashi, who also composed the music for the "Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Crystal" series.
This new version of the series is a reboot celebrating the 20th anniversary of the original series, announced in 2012 with the goal of adapting the manga more faithfully. The first two anime seasons, covering the Dark Kingdom and Black Moon arcs, were broadcast biweekly on Niconico in July 2014 and later aired on TV in early 2015. The third season, based on the Infinity arc, aired in early 2016. The most recent two-part film sequel, Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Eternal, was released in theaters on January 8 and February 11, 2021.
