The BL manga "Ao to Midori" (青と碧, German: Blau und Grün) by Roji is getting a live-action adaptation. As announced on August 29, 2026, Naoya Kusakawa from the dance and vocal group ONE N' ONLY and Hidekazu Chinen will be in front of the camera for the dual lead roles. The series starts on October 5, 2026, on BS Asahi and will subsequently be broadcast by other stations.
The source material tells the story of Hayama Ao, who is a genius as the top student in school and sports, but appears so carefree and naive that everyone calls him "Baby." His classmate Yamamura Midori feels strongly drawn to Ao but cannot confess his feelings. After meeting in high school – both feel committed to society's desire for "normality" – they enter the working world without expressing their love. Over eight years, the two men gradually approach each other by carefully aligning words and feelings.
Naoya Kusakawa can be seen in the role of the rational, caring Yamamura Midori. The rapper and dancer of ONE N' ONLY, who is considered the most-followed Japanese male music act on TikTok with around 5.8 million followers, most recently appeared in the dramas "Mondai Bukken" and "Honmei ja nakya yokatta no ni," among others. Hidekazu Chinen, known from the lead role in "Kamen Rider Gavv" and soon also to be seen in the film "1 Liter Tränen" (2027), takes on the part of Hayama Ao.
Nao Nomura, Hitomi Kitagawa, and Saki Michimoto are responsible for the direction, and the screenplay comes from Ayumi Shimo. The series is produced at TBS Glowdia in collaboration with the production company Canter under the umbrella of the production committee "Ao to Midori."
BS Asahi kicks off on October 5, 2026, at 11:24 p.m.; followed by TV Kanagawa, HBC Hokkaido Broadcasting, CBC TV, and RKB Mainichi Broadcasting. Already from 10 a.m. on the same day, the streaming service Lemino provides the episodes exclusively in advance. After the broadcast on BS Asahi, the series is also available as a repeat stream on TVer.
The manga is published by France Shoin under the Canna Comics label; the first volume was released on August 30, 2023, and the second volume followed on June 1, 2026. Roji herself describes "Ao to Midori" as her first independent BL story and hopes that the drama series will also receive much affection. Kusakawa said he was particularly moved by the development of the two protagonists told over eight years; Chinen pointed to the subtly drawn inner conflicts of the source material and the collaboration with his experienced colleague from the same agency.
