The first episode of the TV anime adaptation of Yosuke Kaneda's manga "Black Cat and the Magic School" (original title: "Kuroneko to Majo no Kyoushitsu") is about to air. The synopsis and first scene images for the episode titled "The Black Cat and Spica" have now been released.

The story begins with Spica Virgo, a girl who dreams of a career as a top-class sorceress. However, she has not been very successful so far and fails daily in her magical attempts. Her fate changes when she meets a mysterious black cat that can speak. She asks him to become her teacher. In return, the cat agrees to teach her, under one condition: Spica must find a book that can break his curse. Thus begins the unusual master-student relationship between the girl and the magical animal.

The series premieres on April 12, 2026. It will air in the "Agaru Anime" block on the CBC and TBS channels, as well as on 26 other affiliated channels across the country. The production is planned for two consecutive cours.

The main roles are prominently cast: Kaede Hondo voices the protagonist Spica Virgo, while Nobunaga Shimazaki voices the black cat Claude Sirius. The further cast includes, among others, Fuuka Izumi as Aria Aquarius, Minori Suzuki as Merrow Pisces, Azusa Tachibana as Ewe Aries, and Haruka Shiraishi as Io Taurus. Also featured are Fairouz Ai as Leo Regulus, Yuuto Uemura as Castor Gemini, and Rena Hasegawa as Pollux Gemini. In other roles, Shoya Ishige, Tomohiro Ono, Miho Wataya, Kazuki Ura, and Miyuki Sakurai can be heard. For the adult roles, Kana Hanazawa has been cast as Principal Jeanne, Show Hayami as Vice Principal Justice Libra, and Hikaru Midorikawa as Procyon.

Naoyuki Tatsuwa directs, while Midori Gotou is responsible for series composition. The character design is by Takayuki Onoda. The animation is handled by Studio LIDENFILMS. The opening theme "Cusp" is performed by singer ASCA.
