The Japanese animation studio 100studio has announced further details about the upcoming TV adaptation of Takaki Tsuyoshi's manga «BLACK TORCH». A new key visual and a second promotional video have been released, showcasing the series' full theme songs for the first time.

The opening theme is the song «FREEZE ME UP» by the rock band SiM, while the ending is accompanied by «Groooovy» from the band I Don't Like Mondays. Both tracks can now be heard in the new PV, which also features action-packed battle scenes alongside the characters. MAH from SiM commented: "Manga is the universe. As many galaxies as there are readers, I expressed the BLACK TORCH galaxy in my mind with sounds and words – that's the song. Congratulations on the start of the anime!" I Don't Like Mondays. added: "We wrote 'Groooovy' as the ending. We imagined the quiet everyday moments behind the battles of Jiro and the others and wanted to create a melody that encourages overcoming adversity and enjoying life."

The second key visual shows protagonist Jiro Azuma and his companion Ragou, as well as the members of the secret anti-Mononoke unit Black Torch – Ichika, Reiji, Shiba, and Usami – and the antagonists Koga and Tenki. The series is based on the manga of the same name, which ran from 2017 to 2018 in «Jump Square» and on «Shonen Jump+» and, despite being discontinued after 19 chapters, gained great international popularity. VIZ Media holds the English license.

The animation is being produced under the direction of Kei Mabiki (100studio), with character design by Go Suzuki and series composition by Gigaemon Ichikawa. The music is by Yutaka Yamada («Vinland Saga», «Tokyo Revengers»). The cast includes Ryota Suzuki (Jiro), Yoji Ueda (Ragou), Ayaka Senbongi (Ichika), Junya Enoki (Reiji), Junichi Suwabe (Ryosuke Shiba), Reina Ueda (Hana), Tomoyuki Morikawa (Tenki), Nobuhiko Okamoto (Koga), as well as other voice actors.

«BLACK TORCH» starts on July 4, 2026, at 10:00 PM on TOKYO MX and other channels (Sun TV, TV Aichi, RKB Mainichi Broadcasting, Hokkaido TV, BS11). Simultaneously, the series will be streamed worldwide on various platforms via simulcast – including on Crunchyroll. The ending song «Groooovy» will be released as a digital single on July 3, 2026. The opening will also be included on SiM's upcoming album «HOOMAN AFTER ALL» (release: September 2, 2026).

To build anticipation for the anime, Shueisha will release new editions of the five volumes of the original manga starting June 8, 2026.
