The second season of the anime series Blue Orchestra (jap. Aoki Ōkesutora) continues the story of the former violin prodigy Hajime Aono and the orchestra of Kaimaku High School. After the third-year students have retired, the second-year students take over the leadership of the orchestra club and together aim to participate in a national competition.
In the new season, several characters come to the fore, portrayed by renowned voice actors. Hiroshi Kamiya plays Yūsuke Sakuma, the percussionist. Tsuyoshi Tsutsui, the horn player, is played by Makoto Kaneko. Rika Tōgane, the trumpeter, is voiced by Iori Saeki.
The plot deals with the challenges the orchestra faces. Different motivations and diverging interpretations of the musical pieces lead to tensions within the group. The series continues to tell the story of Hajime Aono, who rediscovers his passion for music in a school orchestra. The role of Hajime Aono continues to be voiced by Shōya Chiba.
For the musical part of the series, Galileo Galilei is responsible for the opening Amadeus and Chou Q Mei for the ending Ao no Mahō (approximately: Blue Magic).
Blue Orchestra is based on the webcomic by Makoto Akuai, which is published in Manga One by Shogakukan. The anime adaptation is being produced at Nippon Animation under the direction of Seiji Kishi.
