The award-winning mangaka Boichi (Dr. STONE) ventures into a new genre: From now on, he tells a dark Western story in his series THE MARSHAL KING, which appears on Shueisha's Jump+ platform. The debut took place on February 7, 2025, and promises an action-packed mix of family tragedy and moral ambivalence.

The plot is set in an era of lawlessness in the Wild West. At its center is the legendary outlaw M. Godspeed, whose cruelty made him a feared bandit. But the calm of his reign of terror is abruptly disrupted when his own flesh and blood, Jim Godspeed, appears—determined to kill his father. After the deed, Jim crosses the desert with the corpse of the deceased, driven by a mysterious purpose that seems to be more than just revenge.

Boichi, known for his detail-oriented drawings and complex worlds, opts for a darker aesthetic here. A published cover image shows Jim against a barren desert backdrop, surrounded by dust and shadows that emphasize the harsh atmosphere.

THE MARSHAL KING combines classic Western elements with psychological depth. Jim's motivation, which goes beyond simple patricide, hints at political intrigue or even a symbolic reckoning with the past. Boichi himself describes the project as a "homage to the wilderness of the human soul"—a theme he already explored in Dr. STONE through scientific progress.
