The episode begins with Jess and the protagonist, still in pig form, waking up in a forest northeast of Kiltyrie. Jess reveals that she used a black rista to heal the protagonist's wounds. They decide to head north to the royal capital, which is situated on a high mountain.

Along the way, Jess shares her fate as a Yethma, a class of servants in Mesteria. When Yethmas turn 16, they must journey to the royal capital—a trip many do not survive. Those who make it never return. Jess also explains that she is fleeing from Yethma hunters who want to kill her for her valuable silver necklace and bones.

The duo reaches a village called Baptsaze, where they decide to buy a cloth to conceal Jess's necklace. The protagonist helps Jess pick out a light green cloth, and they continue on their way. In the village, they meet a young Yethma girl named Ceres, who works at an inn. The innkeeper offers them lodging and mentions that she used to shelter Yethmas in a monastery that burned down five years ago.

Jess and the protagonist talk about the incident, and Jess expresses her desire to lay flowers at the ruins of the monastery. Both are determined to reach the royal capital and face their destiny.
