Dengeki Bunko's 30th Anniversary Event revealed that a TV anime adaptation of the light novel series "Can a Boy-Girl Friendship Hold Up? (No, it Can't!!)" by Nana Nanana and illustrator PARUM is in the works. The animation studio J.C. Staff will produce the project.
The story of "Can a Boy-Girl Friendship Hold Up? (No, it Can't!!)" revolves around the complex relationship between Himari Inuzuka and Yū Natsume, who vowed to maintain their friendship during middle school. This promise persists even after they transition to high school, and their camaraderie appears unshakable. However, when Yū's old flame reenters his life, the dynamics of their friendship begin to shift, leading to chaos and confusion. Gradually, their relationship transforms into something else.
The light novel series, launched in January 2021 by Nanana, was illustrated by PARUM. The fifth volume of the series was recently published by Kadokawa. A manga adaptation of the story, illustrated by Kamelie, began serialization in Kadokawa's monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh magazine in August 2021. The first volume of this manga adaptation was released by Kadokawa in May 2022.
