Production of the planned anime series Observation Records of a Self-Proclaimed Villainous Fiancée (jap. 自称悪役令嬢な婚約者の観察記録。) has begun with a series of introduction videos for the main characters. The start is a video dedicated to the protagonist Bertia.

The released material offers a look at the character of Bertia Evil Nochez, voiced by the voice actress Miyu Tomita. The video presents the characters in their designed form and gives a first acoustic impression.

The plot is based on a successful novel series and follows Bertia, a woman with memories of a former, modern life, who awakens in a world that resembles her favorite otome game. Her declared goal is to become a model "villainess" in order to finally get her engagement to Crown Prince Cecil dissolved and thus clear the way for the actual heroine of the game story. However, her clumsy attempts to act evil often fail due to her actually friendly nature.

The series is directed by Junichi Yamamoto. Character design is by Miki Matsumoto. The main role of Bertia is voiced by Miyu Tomita, an experienced voice actress who also mentions her interest in otome games in her biography. Crown Prince Cecil receives his voice from Yusuke Kobayashi.

The animation production is by Production Reed (jap. 葦プロダクション), a studio with a long history in the industry.

The underlying novel series has sold over 2.6 million copies, including both printed books and digital editions. The story also spans a sequel that deals with the characters' lives after the engagement.
