Starting June 15, 2026, the first film in the 'Rascal Does Not Dream' series returns to Japanese cinemas for one week. The revival screening of 'Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl' (original title: Seishun Buta Yarō wa Yumemiru Shōjo no Yume wo Minai) runs until June 21. The occasion is the upcoming release of the series' final film, 'Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend,' which is set to hit theaters on October 16, 2026.

The film, which originally premiered on June 15, 2019, adapts volumes 6 and 7 of the eponymous light novel series by Hajime Kamoshida, which has sold over three million copies in Japan. The story revolves around high school student Sakuta Azusagawa and his girlfriend Mai Sakurajima, who are confronted with the mysterious 'Puberty Syndrome' when two versions of Sakuta's first love, Shoko Makinohara, suddenly appear.

For the revival, attendees will receive a limited-edition admission ticket: a mini-shikishi illustration card specially drawn by character designer Satomi Tamura. This offer is valid only while supplies last.

Additionally, on June 15, a special gala screening will take place at Cinema Shinjuku Wald 9 in Tokyo to commemorate the seventh anniversary of the original release. Voice actors Kaito Ishikawa (Sakuta), Asami Seto (Mai), and Inori Minase (Shoko) are expected to appear on stage. They plan to discuss their memories of the first film and also chat about the upcoming final film, 'Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend.' Tickets for this event cost 3,000 yen and can be purchased in advance via Ticket Pia. The lottery for advance sales runs until June 7, with general sales starting on June 9 at 10 a.m.

The revival will be shown in 16 theaters across Japan, including in Sapporo, Sendai, Tokyo (Shinjuku Wald 9, Toho Cinemas Kinshicho), Yokohama, Kawasaki, Chiba, Saitama, Niigata, Nagoya, Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshima, and Fukuoka.

The film features the same creative team as the TV series: direction by Soichi Masui, screenplay by Masahiro Yokotani, character design by Satomi Tamura, and music by Fox Capture Plan. Animation was produced at Studio CloverWorks. The film is also available on the streaming service Crunchyroll (with an English dub since June 2025).

With the upcoming finale, 'Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend,' the beloved series comes to an end after over a decade. The light novel concluded in October 2024.
