The sequel to the Netflix film "City Hunter" is officially coming. As the streaming service announced on March 26th, the birthday of the main character Ryo Saeba, a sequel to the successful live-action adaptation titled "City Hunter 2" is in production. The global premiere is planned for the year 2027, exclusively on Netflix.

The original work by Tsukasa Hojo celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2025 and, with over 50 million collected volumes sold, has established itself as one of the classics of the medium. The first part, released in 2024, told the origin story of the duo Ryo Saeba and Kaori Makimura and landed directly at number 1 on the global Netflix charts.

In the sequel, the main cast returns: Ryohei Suzuki once again takes on the role of the sharp-shooting "Sweeper" Ryo Saeba, while Misato Morita will again be seen as his partner Kaori Makimura. Fumino Kimura is also back as investigator Saeko Nogami. Keiichiro Shiraki is again directing, stating that with the sequel he aims to master the balancing act between preserving the original world and a contemporary adaptation.

Original author Tsukasa Hojo expressed relief that the news could now be officially announced and was impressed by the team's dedication: "I recently had the opportunity to visit the set and was deeply impressed by the incredible passion of Ryohei Suzuki and the director. Particularly noteworthy was Suzuki's physical transformation – it clearly reflects his devotion and commitment."

Lead actor Suzuki himself described the new challenge: "In the first part, the 'story of the beginning' between Ryo and Kaori was told. In this sequel, we deliver the epitome of City Hunter – the City Hunter who is most like City Hunter."

Executive Producer Shinichi Takahashi further promises an upgrade compared to the predecessor: "Cooler, sillier, and more emotional than ever – 'City Hunter 2' is on its way." Filming for the movie is already underway.
