Continuation of „A Couple of Cuckoos“: New season with insights into the plot

The anime series "A Couple of Cuckoos" (jap. Kakkou no Iinazuke), based on the manga by Miki Yoshikawa, returns with a second season. The broadcast start date is August 8, 2025. The continuation is produced by Studio Okuruto Noboru, which takes over the animation work from Shin-Ei Animation and SynergySP from the first season. The direction and series composition are handled by Masakazu Hishida, while Chika Kyoko is responsible for the character designs.

The focus of the premiere episode is Hiro Segawa, who moves into the dormitory "Tenkai House" and thus disrupts the living arrangement with Nagi, Erika, and Sachi. When Nagi proposes a new division of household chores, discussions arise that further intensify the dynamics between the characters. The living situation becomes particularly complex, as Hiro is now in a relationship with Nagi, while Erika remains engaged to him. Musically, the new season is accompanied by the opening "Kimi ga Kureta Mono" (What You Gave Me), which will be released digitally on August 8, 2025. The song by asmi combines pop sounds with lyrical themes about identity and belonging.

The series itself tells the story of Nagi Umino and Erika Amano, who were switched at birth and later, under pressure from their biological parents, become engaged to each other to unite the families. At the center are romantic entanglements, comedic moments, and the search for belonging—such as through Nagi's relationship with Hiro or Erika's search for her missing brother Sosuke.
