Continuation of the anime series Tougen Anki with new story arc announced

A new continuation of the television anime series Tougen Anki is in production. The upcoming story arc is titled "Tougen Anki: Nikko Kegon Falls Arc". A first key visual and a video were released for the announcement.

The story of Tougen Anki: Legend of the Cursed Blood (桃源暗鬼, Tōgen Anki) is based on the manga of the same name by Urushibara Yura, which has been serialized in Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine since June 2020. The story is a modern, dark fairy tale that deals with the ancient conflict between the descendants of the Oni (demons) and the heirs of the legendary hero Momotaro. The protagonist Shiki Ichinose leads a normal life until he learns that he himself carries Oni blood and is drawn into this conflict.

The key visual released for the announcement focuses on the character Hayate Todoroki, an important figure who will be introduced in this new story arc. Todoroki is an Oni who possesses the ability to control wind and is a member of a special unit.

The first anime series was produced by Studio Hibari. It was directed by Ato Nonaka, the screenplay was written by Yukie Sugawara, and the music was composed by Kohta Yamamoto. It is expected that the same core team will be responsible for the production of the continuation.

The series is available internationally on several streaming platforms, including Crunchyroll, Netflix, and Prime Video. The English-language version of the manga is published by Yen Press.

The title of the new arc, Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, refers to the famous Kegon Falls (華厳の滝, Kegon no Taki) in the city of Nikkō in Tochigi Prefecture. This natural setting, known for its impressive height of 97 meters, is expected to play a role in the upcoming story.
