The 3D short film Milky☆Highway, celebrated among anime fans and directed by Yōhei Kameyama, is getting a sequel: Galaxy Express Milky☆Subway will premiere in July 2024 as a TV series and streaming format. The original short film, released on YouTube in 2022 as Kameyama’s graduation project during his vocational school studies, captivated over 6.75 million viewers with its absurd humor and unique worldbuilding.

The protagonists Chiharu (an "upgraded" human) and Makina (a cyborg) end up in prison after violating the Galactic Traffic Law. As punishment, they are forced to clean the interplanetary train Milky☆Subway—a seemingly simple task that escalates into a cosmic spectacle. The series promises a mix of slapstick dialogue, absurd action scenes, and Kameyama’s trademark: visual experimentation.
