Credited to Iñaki Godoy as a "real Luffy" by the Editor-in-Chief of Shueisha

During a recent visit to the manga publisher Shueisha's office, Iñaki Godoy, who will play Monkey D. Luffy in the live-action adaptation of "One Piece," received a remarkable confirmation. Hiroyuki Nakano, the editor-in-chief of Shueisha, told Godoy that he embodies "the real Luffy," a moment that deeply moved the actor. This interaction was documented in a video shared on Netflix Japan's YouTube channel. It shows Godoy visiting the office and encountering the very first chapter of "One Piece," written by Eiichiro Oda in 1997.



This is not the only confirmation of Godoy's strong connection to his character. Recently, he appeared on the cover of the 34th issue of Weekly Shonen Jump, right alongside his animated counterpart.

The casting for the highly anticipated live-action version was announced in November 2021. In a creative series of "Wanted" posters, the actors selected for the main roles were introduced, including Godoy's role as Luffy. The ensemble also includes Mackenyu as Zoro, Taz Skylar as Sanji, Emily Rudd as Nami, and Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp.
