Lloyd initiates systematic investigations: The church is searched for hidden access points, while Escher, who was deliberately attacked by the pastor, must overcome her fears in order to continue performing as a singer. The search leads to the discovery of a hidden cellar beneath the church, which is fitted with a material-sealing wood that blocks both mana and qi. This room, which has remained undiscovered until now, points to a larger secret connected to the pastor and possible dark machinations of the church.

Parallel to this, tensions with the church hierarchy escalate: The adventurer's guild and Prince Albert contact the Vatican, but are rebuffed with demands for evidence for the accusations. The pastor seems to have connections to supernatural phenomena, including wraiths and ghouls, which strengthens Lloyd's suspicion that the church as an institution is involved. The episode ends with the entry into the cellar, which emits an unpleasant odor and whose contents could confront the group with new threats. The outlook for Episode 18, "Escher's Will", suggests that Escher's determination will be the focus.
