The anime adaptation of the dark fantasy novel "Blade & Bastard" is taking concrete shape: Warner Bros. Japan has released the first teaser trailer and simultaneously announced the key staff members. The series is scheduled to launch in 2027.

The story is set in the world of the legendary role-playing game "Wizardry." The narrative is written by Kumo Kagyu ("Goblin Slayer"), with illustrations by so-bin ("Overlord"). The underlying light novel series is published by DRE Novels (Drecom Media) and has been translated into over ten languages, with total sales exceeding 700,000 copies.

The animation is handled by studio xingfu, which was only founded in 2025. Direction is by Tomoki Kobayashi ("Akame ga Kill!", "Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception"). Series composition is by Naruhisa Arakawa, character design by Rina Iwamoto. The music is composed by Hayato Matsuo, with sound direction by Kisuke Koizumi. Monster design is supported by Jun Suemi.

The main cast has already been announced: Iarumas is voiced by Makoto Furukawa, Garbage by Tomori Kusunoki, Raraja by Daiki Yamashita, Ainikki by Saori Hayami, and Berkanan by Shion Wakayama.

Robert Woodhead, co-developer of "Wizardry," congratulates the anime adaptation in a video message. Further details are to be presented at Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles, where voice actors Makoto Furukawa and Daiki Yamashita will appear among others. The streaming service HIDIVE has secured the license for North America, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.

The teaser trailer already conveys the dark, threatening atmosphere of the labyrinthine dungeons—a worthy homage to the spirit of the classic "Wizardry."
