The light novel series »Majo to Ryōken« (roughly German: »The Witch and the Hound«) by Rainy Kamitsuki is receiving an anime adaptation for Japanese television. As announced by publisher Shogakukan and the production team on July 2, 2026, the series is being produced at Studio TriF. A first teaser trailer and a teaser visual were released simultaneously.

The story is set in a world where the Kingdom of Amelia threatens neighboring countries with its magic monarchy. The small state of Campusfellow hatches a risky plan: Lord's son Bud Grace dispatches the young assassin Rollo – known as the »Black Dog« – to recruit the continent's most feared witches. The teaser shows an initial action-packed clash between Rollo and the Mirror Witch Teresa Lisa, who also adorns the cover of the first light novel volume.

Takanori Tsujimoto is directing, who previously worked on the live-action »Ultraman« series and the anime film »Hypnosis Mic -Division Rap Battle-«. The series composition is handled by Jun Tsugita together with author Rainy Kamitsuki, who is thus directly involved in scriptwriting. The character design comes from Kengo Saito (Yostar Pictures), and the music is composed by Yuki Hayashi. TriF Studio is responsible for the animation, which recently gained attention with »Mecha-Ude«.

The underlying light novel series has been published since October 2020 under Shogakukan's Gagaga Bunko imprint and currently comprises six volumes. A manga adaptation illustrated by Minori Tsukahara ran from May 2023 to July 2025 on Square Enix's Manga UP! platform and was completed in four collected volumes. The anime adaptation is expected to air in 2027; further details such as voice cast and broadcaster will be announced at a later date. An official teaser website and a social media channel have already been launched.
