The horror anime series "Dark Gathering" is going into its second round: The new season is scheduled to air in Japan in 2027. Production company Pony Canyon confirmed the timeframe in early September and released the first so-called horror visual. It shows the spirit of the A-Dam, visible in a dark control corridor of a dam – a scene that already hints at the eerie atmosphere of the sequel.

A second season had already been announced in October 2025, accompanied by a teaser image as well as comments from cast and production members. However, the exact start date, broadcasting stations, and theme music for the new season are still pending. In terms of content, "Dark Gathering" shifts the action to Kyoto: The story begins with chapter 34 ("Joraku", roughly "Departure to the Capital") from the ninth volume of the manga source material.

The underlying manga by Kenichi Kondo has been serialized in Shueisha's magazine "Jump SQ." since 2019 and has now reached a circulation of more than three million copies; so far, 20 compiled volumes have been released. In the English-speaking world, VIZ Media publishes the work.

Studio OLM is again responsible for the animation. Hiroshi Ikehata continues as director, Shigeru Murakoshi handles the series composition, and Yuri Ichinose designs the characters. The voice cast also remains the same: Yu Shinohara voices the enigmatic Yayoi Hozuki, Nobunaga Shimazaki plays the student Keitaro Gentoga, Kana Hanazawa voices his childhood friend Eiko Hozuki, and Rina Kawaguchi plays Ai Kamiyo. Yoshihiro Nakamura once again takes on the narrator role.

The first season of "Dark Gathering" aired from July to December 2023 and comprised 25 episodes. The story revolves around Keitaro Gentoga, a student with a pronounced gift as a spirit medium, who had withdrawn for more than two years after a traumatic experience. When he meets the girl Yayoi Hozuki as a tutor, who is searching for the spirit that once kidnapped her mother, the two team up – together with Eiko – to track down dangerous spirits across Japan.

Further news about the second season is to be announced via the official anime website, the associated social media channels, and the manga section in "Jump SQ.".
