The Japan Cartoonists Association (JCA) announced the winners of the 50th Japan Cartoonists Association Awards on Monday. Koyoharu Gotouge's Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba won the grand prize in the Comic category, and Joruju Piroshiki's self-published work NEW NORMAL! won the grand prize in the Cartoon category. The grand prize includes a cash award of 500,000 yen (approximately 4,500 US dollars). The awards ceremony will take place on October 1 at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo.
The reason for the award is as follows: "We would like to honor this passionate and moving work that shows how manga can touch the hearts of so many people."
The JCA has presented the Japan Cartoonists Association Awards annually since 1972. Machiko Satonaka chaired this year's selection committee. The jury included Shōji Igo, Kamakiri Uno, Hiroshi Odagiri, Kōji Fujishita, Moto Hagio, Mitsuru Miura, George Morikawa, and Ikuya Kōmori.
