Details on the new animated short film by Asuka Dokai

A new animated short film titled If I Were to Be Born Now has been announced. The work is part of the anthology GEMNIBUS vol.2 and portrays the months of pregnancy as an adventurous journey.

Directing the short film is Asuka Dokai, a filmmaker born in Yamagata Prefecture. Dokai, who studied at the Tōhoku University of Art and Design, has already realized a variety of projects, including music videos for well-known artists such as YOASOBI and Vaundy, as well as commercial films. In her work, she often aims to achieve a strong emotional impact through high artistic standards and a unique aesthetic. For this film, she expressed the wish that viewers can feel the warmth of life.

The musical accompaniment for the film is provided by composer Marihiko Hara. The title song, named Lullaby, is performed by singer Miwa Sakamoto. This collaboration promises to support the emotional depth of the narrative about birth and the beginning of life.

If I Were to Be Born Now is released as part of GEMNIBUS vol.2. GEMNIBUS is a film series published under the creative label GEMSTONE by Toho. The first installment, GEMNIBUS vol.1, already included four different short films, such as the monster adventure Godzilla vs. Megalon and other standalone works. The series serves as a platform for diverse cinematic short forms.
