Detective Conan - Episode 1085

The episode begins at the Mori Detective Agency, where Conan, Kogoro, and Ran are watching a news report about recently murdered foreigners. Rumors are circulating that the victims were FBI agents, though this has not been confirmed. However, Conan knows the rumors are true, as he was involved in the case. He reveals that the FBI's defeat led to many agents being withdrawn from Japan and the strategy for combating the Black Organization being revised.

Conan has been preoccupied with two things since the case: a conversation between Yusaku Kudo and Shuichi Akai about a "tea party," and Andre Camel's knowledge about the identity of the Black Organization member Rum. Camel learned from Vodka that Rum has a new face and is working under a strange alias. Shuichi Akai and his colleagues had no answer to this detail, and Conan doubts he would get an answer from Toru Amuro.

As Conan considers discussing his theories with someone, Ran announces that they will be receiving a visitor from Osaka. To Conan's surprise, only Kazuha Toyama arrives. The girls plan to visit a shrine in Haido, and Conan is invited to come along. At the shrine, they notice a man studying vocabulary on his phone, which seems odd since he presumably doesn’t need luck in a relationship. Kazuha changes the subject and asks Ran why she’s never heard of this shrine despite living nearby. Ran replies that they usually go to the Beika Shrine. Kazuha learned about this shrine from Heiji, who read about it on his phone. Conan suspects that Heiji also wanted to visit the shrine to make a better love confession to Kazuha than the one Shinichi made to Ran in front of Big Ben.

Conan spots a man wearing a fox mask in the line and suspects it’s Heiji. He uses his voice changer to imitate Kazuha’s voice and confirms Heiji’s identity. Heiji explains that he has no choice but to buy the charm because his attempts to confess his love to Kazuha keep getting interrupted by murder cases. At that moment, Kazuha and Ran appear behind them. When Heiji begins speaking in a disguised voice, Kazuha excitedly believes it’s the actor Hyoga Komoto from Naniwa Kids. The girls are big fans and recently read that Komoto is secretly dating starlet Usagi Mikage.

Suddenly, they hear a scream from the stairs. They find the man they noticed earlier with a severe head injury. Conan and Heiji can only confirm his death. They rule out an accident and suspect someone must have pushed him down the stairs or struck him. Heiji guesses a flagpole as the murder weapon, but the flag was left at the scene. Conan concludes that the man was an investigator searching for the people in the photos on his supposed vocabulary cards. The man’s last mumbled words suggest that three suspects were on the shrine grounds.

The police manage to detain the three suspects from the photos: petty thief Tsurumi Shamoto, hit-and-run driver Torahiko Kawano, and marriage swindler Kyoma Jinnai. The victim is identified as Soshi Hidaka, an officer from the investigation division. Inspector Takagi explains that the flagpole still hasn’t been found and that his team has searched the entire area. Conan wonders why all three suspects remained at the shrine and none tried to flee. He also doubts the killer could have struck Hidaka with a not-so-heavy pole. Conan subtly questions Kazuha about Heiji and, based on her reaction, believes she already knows Heiji is behind the mask.
