The episode continues the investigation into the murder of Soshi Hidaka. Inspector Sato wonders why all three suspects remained at the shrine instead of fleeing. Inspector Takagi explains the reasons to him: Tsurumi Shamoto, a petty thief, was handcuffed and chained to a lamppost with a bicycle lock, both of which belonged to the victim, Hidaka. Shamoto did not attempt to flee because the police station was located across the street.

The second suspect, Torahiko Kawano, was involved in a fight with some gang members before the police arrived at the shrine. The disguised Heiji Hattori suspects that Kawano did not flee before the fight to hide the victim's blood on his clothes. When Heiji provokes Kawano, the latter tries to attack him, but Sato and Takagi intervene. When asked about the identity of the masked young man, Kazuha explains that he is an old friend who suffered facial burns and therefore does not remove the mask.

The last suspect, Kyoma Jinnai, claims he did not want to flee and did not notice Hidaka's presence. He also mentions that he lost his wallet and was searching for it. Inspector Sato concludes that there must have been a fourth suspect on the premises and that Hidaka accidentally encountered Jinnai. Conan notices that Jinnai's pants are very dirty and wonders why they would be dirty if Jinnai was only walking around the premises. Jinnai adds that he was at the shrine to buy a charm for his next marriage scam. After purchasing it, he noticed that his wallet, containing over 100,000 yen in cash, was missing.

Shamoto laughs and reveals that she stole the wallet, which only had 3,000 yen in cash. It turns out that Kawano was responsible for the leg injury of Shamoto's friend, which led her to return to her old thieving habits. Kawano was at the shrine to buy a charm for his sister, who had fallen for Jinnai's advances.

Sato and Takagi ignore the argument between the three suspects and focus on the investigation. The murder weapon, a flagpole, is still missing. Conan suspects that the flagpole might be in a large wooden box containing many other poles, but the forensics team has already checked this. At the crime scene, Ran and Kazuha notice some snowmen with plastic capsule toys from a vending machine as eyes. Conan and Heiji hear a strange noise and notice that the ground at the crime scene is icy. They manage to solve the case. Meanwhile, Ran and Kazuha suspect that the young man under the mask is actually Heiji.

Heiji, still in disguise, begins to explain the case. The flag was a decoy by the culprit, and the actual murder weapon was not the flagpole. Kazuha tells Ran that she knew from the start that the person under the mask was Heiji but wanted to provoke him. Conan mentions the strange noise they heard earlier. He concludes that the noise came from a bucket worn as a hat by one of the snowmen, which was filled with frozen water. The culprit, in a moment of panic, grabbed the bucket and struck the victim, causing them to fall down the stairs. Inspector Sato finds this plausible but notes that any of the three could have done it. The disguised Heiji immediately rules out Kawano as the culprit, as the attacker struck with their right hand, but Kawano is left-handed. Jinnai is also left-handed and thus not the culprit. This leaves Shamoto as the only suspect.

Shamoto denies the accusation, claiming she could not have attacked the victim due to the handcuffs. Conan intervenes and suggests a test to determine whether Shamoto could have freed herself from the lock. It is confirmed that the bicycle lock can easily be pulled through the handcuffs using a loop. Shamoto finally confesses to her crime.

After the arrest, Heiji plans to finally buy the limited-edition charm. Before doing so, Conan asks Heiji what he would consider a "funny name." Heiji gives examples like "Conan Edogawa" or Kaito Kid's former alias "Katsuki Doito," which was an anagram of his identity. Their conversation is interrupted by Kazuha and Ran, who still pretend that the disguised Heiji is actually Hyoga Komoto. At that moment, the real Hyoga Komoto is recognized by some fans at the shrine. Heiji's disguise is exposed, and Kazuha removes his mask. Heiji confesses to Kazuha that he came here to seek divine help through the charm. However, Kazuha does not realize that Heiji actually wanted to buy the charm for their relationship and demands to know for whom Heiji intends to buy it. Once again, Heiji cannot bring himself to confess his feelings and instead starts a heated argument with Kazuha.
