Kaito Kid announces his next heist: Sirens Splash, a crown featuring one of the world's largest tourmalines, is set to mysteriously vanish. Indeed, he manages to make the crown disappear unnoticed in the Suzuki building—without even triggering the alarm. How did he pull it off?

Inspector Nakamori's team searches all attendees and the exhibition room, but the crown remains missing, and no one seems to be carrying it. Suspicion falls on Ando Seria, the exhibition director, after antique expert Karino Bunji notices she changed her jacket. She explains this by citing an incident where ketchup was accidentally spilled, which also stained the clothes of the two appraisers and a café employee. However, Conan realizes this was no accident. Kid had mixed baking soda into the ketchup bottle, causing its contents to explode upon opening. This allowed him to deliberately stain his target's clothing, later incapacitate them, and assume their identity.

Even though Kid is exposed, the crown remains missing. Conan analyzes the events: Ando demonstrated the security mechanism by lifting the crown, gem appraiser Chujo inspected it with a blower brush, and Karino removed dust with an air spray. Conan finally deduces that Kid must have used the air spray to apply a light-absorbing black paint to the back of the crown. By cleverly rotating it, he made the crown appear invisible in the dark display case.

With this trick, Conan exposes Karino as Kaito Kid. But before he can be caught, Kid makes a risky move, claiming the crown now belongs to him. Conan tries to stop him, but Kid escapes once again—this time disguised as Azusa, a café employee. Suddenly, two Azusas stand before him, and Conan is unsure which one is real. With Amuro's help, the deception is uncovered: A spontaneous love confession to Azusa reveals the real one, while Kid's reaction gives him away.

Although Kid escapes once more, he leaves the crown behind, as it was never his true target. He vanishes through the ceiling and slips away unnoticed. Yet once again, Conan has seen through the notorious thief's plan and saved Sirens Splash.
