"Detective Conan": Fourth consecutive film grossing over 100 billion yen at the box office

The 29th film in the Detective Conan series, "Detective Conan: Highway no Datenshi" (roughly "Detective Conan: The Fallen Angel of the Highway"), has reached another milestone. According to the production committee, the film attracted over 7.4 million viewers to theaters within 27 days of its release on April 10, 2026, earning more than 10.88 billion yen (approx. 108.8 billion yen). This makes it the fourth consecutive installment in the series to surpass the 100 billion yen mark—a record in the history of Japanese cinema.

To commemorate this occasion, series creator Gosho Aoyama released a specially drawn illustration. It features the young detective Conan Edogawa alongside the film's main character, Chihaya Hagiwara, as well as key figures Kenji Hagiwara and Jinpei Matsuda, accompanied by dialogue reminiscent of the film's dynamic. The news of the success reached a symbolic peak when the 100 billion yen mark was officially broken on May 4—the birthday of the character Conan Edogawa, or his true identity, Shinichi Kudo.

As a thank-you to fans, all moviegoers of "Highway no Datenshi" will receive two special digital illustrations starting May 8: a general one and the anniversary drawing by Gosho Aoyama, personalized with the visit date and the viewer's own name. At the same time, a music video for the theme song single "Last Dance Anata to" by singer MISIA was released, featuring new scenes and clips from the film. These include, among others, Chihaya Hagiwara saving a girl from an accident with her motorcycle and using her unique riding skills to confront a pursuer.

"Detective Conan: Highway no Datenshi" premiered in Japan on April 10, 2026. This is the fourth consecutive film in the series to exceed the 100 billion yen mark, following "Black Iron Submarine" (2023), "The Million-dollar Pentagram" (2024), and "One-eyed Flashback" (2025).
